Abstract

This research was conducted in Banjar Taro, Taro village,Tegalalang
district,Gianyar regency, Bali. The residents of the village believe that there is an area which is considered as sacred place for the Hindus of the village which is believed as the dwelling place ofthe sacred animal which becomes the tourism attraction namedLembuPutih (White Ox).
However, this tourism attraction is still less-known which can be seen from the total visitation of 10 to 20 visitors per week. This research used a purposive sampling technique by determining the informants based on the specific purposes, certain considerations, and the researchers’ considerations. The information was determined to suit the research and had criteria of; (1) they have a deep knowledge on the research topic, (2) they had experienced or often experience or having a certain experience toward the research object, (3) they are involved in the activities related to the research object. In determining the tourist informants, the accidental method was used by gathering information from the tourists who incidentally were at the location at the time the research was being conducted at LembuPutih tourism attraction. The techniques of gathering data were interview, literature study, and documentation.
The results showed that there were cultural potentials owned by the Lembu Putih tourism attraction at Taro village which covered: (1) Local carving.The local carving in form ofman-made paras stone which is known as paras Taro which is used to make many carvings such as statues,candibentar (Balinese gate),and Hindus worshiping places. (2) Tradition. The local residents strongly hold their cultural tradition which is full of religious values of Hindu which is the major religion in Taro village. Another activity which is often done in this place is yoga/meditation because of its peaceful environment and fresh air. (3)Taro history.This village has a history which is tightly related to the coming of RsiMerkandya who came from Java to see a holy light which came out of a tree, therefore, the village was named as Taro which comes from the word Taru (tree).
There are white oxens which are unique and can only be found in this village.They
